Top Ten Reasons Why I Can't Live Without My PLN!

 What is a PLN? According to Jordan Catapano on Teachhub.com, "What it means is that an individual has developed their own personalized 'network' of fellow educators and resources who are designed to make them a better teacher. This network exists...online through their social media connections." 

 Through social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Blogging, Pinterest...I've met so many amazing teachers who share my philosophy and passion for teaching. Here are my top ten reasons why I can't live without my PLN...

  1. We share ideas
  2. Inspired by ideas and experiences of others
  3. Seeing outside the walls of my classroom 
  4. Support
  5. Creative problem solving
  6. Learning new things 
  7. Book recommendations
  8. Writing feedback
  9. They make me a better teacher
  10. I share in a world wide community of teaching
I urge you to join in...use social media for your own professional development. Join a twitter chat, or write a blog about teaching...post ideas on pinterest, or link to important teaching ideas on facebook!

    I so agree with this post. Social media has allowed me to connect with like-minded people, something that has been rare for me during my 7 years of teaching. I have teacher-friends who I treasure, but I wouldn't say that we have similar philosophies, methods, and passions. I am thrilled to be able to meet some of them this summer! That will be a completely different kind of connection!

    You are my friend, even though we have never met, because of this active and engaging PLN. Presently I have tabs open for FB, Twitter, and blogs. I am bouncing back and forth to see what everyone is talking about. My journal is open and I am writing down ideas from other teachers. This environment is rich with ideas, support, and love. I hope I am not bordering on obsession!
    Thanks for linking up and yes, this is absolutely a digital literacy post. More and more our own social media connections will influence our classroom teaching.

Sharing this post on Two Writing Teachers Slice of Life Do you ever wonder whatever happened to your students after the year you spend together? I imagine how my students are finding life...are they happy? Successful? Do they still read? Write? What is going on with them?   I taught fifth grade for eight years. Fifth grade was such a fun year to teach because the students were still young enough that school was something they loved and old enough that they could show some real signs of independence. Storms

Last night there was a thunderstorm. It was loud. It was bright. The rain was pouring from the sky. Everything stopped. I sat in bed with all of the blinds opened and watched the flashing lightning paint the sky over and over and over again. The thunder boomed and my poor Bella ran under the bed. The rain poured and poured and poured.  I thought about how cleansing a storm can be. While it's happening, it can be scary...just ask my dog...but after it's over, I wake up and feel renewed. Maybe we need to storm sometimes too. Let it all out and see what's left and how it feels. I storm...on the pages my notebook. When I'm frustrated or worried or ecstatic, I open the pages and let it all out. The emotions paint the pages of my notebook...it's all left there. And after, I feel renewed. I Love Me...All of Me

I'm fat. It's true. I'm not looking for comments like, "Oh you're not fat." I am. I want to take that word back. When we say that now, it has a negative connotation. I'm tired of that. I'm done. I'm fat. I'm working on loving my body just the way it is...by reading a book. I confess I'm reading the book on my Kindle app because I was embarrassed about the title. It's called, "Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls" and it's written by Jes Baker . Her mission is self-love...for all.
