Celebrating: Building a Name
Today is my 28th slice for the March Slice of Life Challenge on Two Writing Teachers.
This week I started reading Austin Kleon's book Show Your Work. Reading it was one of those experiences where I felt like he could have begun every sentence with, "Michelle..." It seemed like it was written for ME!
I decided to take a leap and FLY after reading some of this book. He strongly suggests that you "build a good name" and part of that is claiming your name online. I did it. Here's Michelle Haseltine dot com: michellehaseltine.com!
This makes me SO nervous to share this!! I worry that people will think, "Why do YOU need a website?!?!" but I'm doing this despite the fear. I also know that the community that reads this blog is so wonderfully supportive... and that is helping me walk to the edge and spread my wings. I don't know what this will lead to, but I'm celebrating the fact that I am FLYing into this new way of sharing my work with the world. Thank you to Holly for the book recommendation!
Today I am presenting at the Language and Learning Conference which is sponsored by our local writing project, NVWP! I'm sharing a completely new presentation about Writing in the Digital World. Wish me luck! Have a wonderful Saturday and thank you for celebrating with me!!
Bravo! Brilliant book, brilliant YOU! FLY!
ReplyDeleteGood luck...and WOW! Love that you set up a website. So brave and so cool! Have a great day, Michelle. I'm sure your presentation will be fabulous.
ReplyDeleteIt's great you are chasing your dreams and not letting them get away from you. Good luck today!
ReplyDeleteFirst, good luck with the presentation. Wish I was there!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I think carving out a space is part of carving out our digital identities (the focus of the Walk My World project this year). Plus, you got a dog on the homepage. That's always good!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your website and presentation. What did you have to do to get your name? Hmm, wonder if I will ever feel like I should do that.

ReplyDeleteGood luck! Your post was a wonderful thing to red the first thing in the morning. I was excited when I finally figured out how to redirect my name domain to my existing blog. I can't believe it took me awhile!
ReplyDeleteI love the website. Congrats on your courage and your flight!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your presentation! I've been thinking about a website, too, and had some of the same concerns that you expressed. You've encouraged me to take this step:)
ReplyDeleteI love how you "fly" into new projects to try and learn. I have no doubt your presentation will go well and you'll learn something new from it. Enjoy your weekend, Michelle!

ReplyDeleteGood for you. I'm sure your new website will evolve into something you won't be able to live without. It has a great look already!.
ReplyDeleteI just checked out your website. You are making a name for yourself every day, every post. Now you have a place organize, create and build.
ReplyDeleteI am sure the presentation rocked and your new website does too (love the layout and sharing buttons on the side)! I look forward to hearing more about both (and getting a copy of Show Your Work). Thanks for inspiring me, Michelle.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your website. I am anxious to see what you do with it and where it takes you. I am sure your presentation went great and they were filled with your passion and learning.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, your positivity to take a risk - fly - is showing in your new venture. It is interesting that we were both presenting at conferences this weekend. Have a great day!
