Celebrating Small

Thank you to Ruth Ayres for the opportunity to focus on celebrations every week! September 19 will mark our 100th celebration! Please join us! Today I am celebrating small moments that make up my life! This upcoming week is a week of transition...from summer back to work...so I want to focus on the small moments that bring joy. Notebook writing! I have made a commitment to post a notebook page online everyday.  I want to make my writing open and model my life as a writer for my students. Join me!! I'm using the hashtag #sharingournotebooks right now. I may use another one...haven't decided yet. On the days when my writing is private and I don't want the world to see, I'll Waterlogue it.  I celebrate my notebook writing! I celebrate my Saturday morning writing group. Leigh Anne Eck and Jennifer Laffin and I meet Saturday mornings (via Google Hangout.) I love that we picked mornings because we aren't night people! We share struggles and ...

Celebrations This Week!

I love ending the week with celebrations! Thank you Ruth !  Please join us and share your celebrations! I celebrate my favorite season...AUTUMN!  I've noticed the colors that greet me each morning, the brilliant skies each evening and the gorgeous leaves shining on the trees.  I celebrate authors, in particular, Sharon Draper. I got the opportunity to hear her speak this week and I loved every moment of it. From the moment her talk began, I could see the teacher in her! She captivated the audience and a couple of my students came out to hear her! What an amazing night!!  I celebrate ZONE Day in class. The final day of the quarter is a celebration of reading. We read. Ninety minutes of reading. It's like the best day of the year. Here are some of my students after they've settled in to their books. What a joy it is to witness this and be a part of it!!! (I read two and a half books!!) I celebrate my PLN! I celebrate the ideas that yo...

She has been tweeting for a year and it finally clicked at the conference! :) That's how it happened for me too! Heather is an amazing teacher with a new blog. (Hint, hint...hoping Heather shares it soon!!) She's always searching for ways to improve her craft as a teacher. She inspires and helps so many!! Today, she's at ISTE learning all sorts of amazing new things! Here's a tweet from the conference that I just love... Live your life in beta. Give yourself permission to take risks, and fail and challenge the norm. #iste2014 — Steven W. Anderson (@web20classroom) June 29, 2014 I love this quote. "Live your life in beta." Here's to Heather and all of the other teachers out there today who are taking risks and learning and stretching and growing! Way to go, Heather! Have lots of fun at IS...

Meandering Days of Summer

Each week on Saturday  bloggers celebrate at  Ruth Ayres Writes .  Won't you join us?  Today I celebrate meandering days. I celebrate the freedom to schedule my time however I like. Summer is a time of projects and planning and catching up. It's also a time of relaxing and enjoying and meandering. Yesterday, I finished one book and started another. I worked on some projects for the English Department. I played with Bella, did laundry, met a friend for dinner, went for a walk...I meandered. Bella enjoying a summer morning... I love that word...meander. It's like there's a long, winding path in front of me that I follow, stopping whenever I like...in no hurry to arrive at my destination. That's how I see summer. There are things to be done, but my focus isn't finish, finish, finish...it's enjoy the journey.  I mentioned the English Department...I celebrate the amazing leadership the English Department in my county. Dr. Michele Schmidt-...
