Ebb and Flow of Writing

Dear Writing,

I've missed you.
Been gone too long
All the excuses are there...
Too busy, work, family, friends
But it's not enough
I haven't made time for you
and I'm sorry.

When I avoid you,
I feel it.
Less.
Empty.
Voiceless.
Sad.

I need you!
Please forgive me.
It's just that you ask,
you demand EVERYTHING from me
and my resistance comes from
the fear that I didn't have enough to give

I don't care anymore!
Whether you're good or
you're bad... I need you in my life.

This poem speaks to my reluctance and struggle to sit down and write lately. It's inspired (the format is blatantly stolen) from the retirement poem that Kobe Bryant wrote and published yesterday. His words surprised me and moved me and inspired me. The other reason for this poem is a webinar, The Potency of Poetry, that I listened to last night between Donalyn Miller and Kwame Alexander. They talked about poetry for an hour. Here are some of my favorite lines from Kwame Alexander... "My goal is to make words cool and make words fun!" "I've seen poems dance!" "You don't dissect poetry. You dissect frogs." After listening to his passion for poetry, I woke up this morning inspired to return to it. Thanks for reading! I hope your day brings you poems that dance and words that are cool and fun!

    I love your honesty and your commitment to being a better you. Writing every morning? Could I do that? You make me want to try. And then there's this way cool response from Kevin. He shows up in the most surprising places.

    Ok...this post from your words, to Kobe's words, to Kevin's words have brought me to tears and put a smile on my face all at the same time! You may have stopped writing but I know you didn't wander too far. Once writing has become part of your life, it just doesn't go away. "See" you Saturday!

    You remind me of the old saying, "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride." It sounds as if you're ready to stop wishing and get that BIC, back to writing, the thing you love. I love that you started with a poem, and now onward. Looking forward to hearing all about your time with the words, Michelle.

    Earlier this year I set a writing goal for myself. When I didn't manage to meet that goal, I simply gave up. Your words have reinspired me! Thank you!!

    You're back, Michelle. How wonderful! I will definitely listen to the webinar between two fav authors that you suggested. How about a quick fall poem with one of your famous photos for Autumn's Palette Gallery? (maybe Bella playing in the leaves)

    So glad to hear your voice! I have missed you! I'm trying to write with Mary Lee and a couple of others that have joined us this month. Right now, I feel like if I don't have accountability of other writers, I just don't get the writing done. Not sure what that says about me as a writer, but it's true…

Here I Am

I haven't posted in a couple of weeks. I've been thinking for the past couple of days about this post...but I can't think of anything to write. Frozen in my failure, I want to quit, but I push through and show up here...even though it seems pointless. Who wants to read a blog post about nothing?  I begin to panic a bit...Have I "lost it"? Someday...

Join us at Two Writing Teachers . Do you have dreams? Kids are good at dreaming. I find many adults struggle with it. Speaking for myself, I get so caught up in the everyday drudgery of life, that dreams get nudged aside until they disappear.  It's important to have dreams. I've been writing about my dreams in my notebook and so I thought I'd share my dreams here... 1. Writing a book.  While I'd love to get a book published, my dream is to write a book...to complete the act of writing it.  I've started on this dream and it's hard and challenging and exciting and amazing.  2. Chasing My Dream

I'm doing it. I'm chasing my dream. I've always wanted to run writing retreats and workshops for people, but I've always been too scared to do anything about it...until now. I don't know what's changed...maybe I've changed. I'm not allowing the fear to stop me anymore. I've started Selah Writing Retreats.  The past couple of weeks I've been getting the business end in order. I thought I would hate that...I don't. It's scary, but I am surprising myself with how efficient I am. Yesterday I went to a bank to set up a bank account. The woman I met with was kind and helpful and so enthusiastic about my dream. My website is set up. I've done lots of work on it. I hope you stop by and let me know what you think. It's  selahwritingretreats.com . Balancing creative with business has been challenging but fun.
