Storms
Last night there was a thunderstorm. It was loud. It was bright. The rain was pouring from the sky. Everything stopped. I sat in bed with all of the blinds opened and watched the flashing lightning paint the sky over and over and over again. The thunder boomed and my poor Bella ran under the bed. The rain poured and poured and poured.
I thought about how cleansing a storm can be. While it's happening, it can be scary...just ask my dog...but after it's over, I wake up and feel renewed.
Maybe we need to storm sometimes too. Let it all out and see what's left and how it feels. I storm...on the pages my notebook. When I'm frustrated or worried or ecstatic, I open the pages and let it all out. The emotions paint the pages of my notebook...it's all left there. And after, I feel renewed. I breathe more deeply, think more clearly, and feel better.
Without thunderstorms, what would spring be? Without writing, who would I be?

I have always been deeply connected to the role of the classroom teacher and it is still where I feel most at home. Yet, the invitation to move into a new role where larger growth is possible also beckons.
Such a beautiful post, Michelle! I love the connection between writing and thunderstorms. It also made me think about the times when it storms and I go hide too, just like Bella. I never feel quite as renewed when I do that versus facing the storm. Ahhh...food for thought!

My post today uses that cleansing storm theme, but I felt that my words have been lost "saturated" by all these challenges. I wrote for 61 days straight, showing up every day no matter what the weather. This is a good analogy for writing, pouring out on the page.
ReplyDeleteYes! I wish I had watched the storm. That very act of watching it resets my sense of place in the world too. I love your idea of storming on the page. Thank you for your ideas.
ReplyDeleteMichele, I agree with you sometimes a good cleansing is good for the soul. I always feel like that when I go and have "a good cry".
ReplyDeleteGreat image Michelle. I've missed your thoughts and been meaning to check in with you on how your dream is coming along. Selah!
ReplyDeleteWow- storming on the page. What a great- and true- insight. We had that storm too (I think you and I live in the same state). The lightning was incredible. I have a metal roof and the sound of the heavy rain was loud in my house.
ReplyDeleteLove that pouring out on the page, Michelle. Hope you have some sun today.
ReplyDeleteI'm a storm lover, too, Michelle - and you are so right to focus on the way it clears our minds and helps to settle our souls.
ReplyDeleteStorming... What about a walk in a storm?? ChannelingKing Lear for that one. There's therapy too that makes storming literal- punching bag??? Helps!!!! :) I love a good storm too!!!

I love the way the air smells after a thunderstorm. Your post has me thinking about that. It does seem that spring is often a process of being renewed; cleansed. Thank you for helping me to think about that.
ReplyDeleteListen carefully during that storm. It may just whisper a new beginning. ~Amy
ReplyDeleteI love storms...as long as there is no wind. It always amazes me how much greener everything is the day after a storm. Look forward to hearing more about that beckoning. :)
