Turn Around

I don't know what to write. I'm showing up because that is what life is about, but I don't know what to write.

The school year is coming to a close. Transitions are hard. Not knowing is hard. I'm excited about what we've accomplished this year (like My Reading Life video) and I'm sad to say goodbye.



I look forward to my next challenges and opportunities. This summer: I'm attending the All Write Conference for the first time! I get to meet (IRL) some of my good friends. 

 I'm getting to spend my summer WRITING at the NVWP Summer Institute. It's such an honor to be able to return and spend days writing and learning from amazing teachers. 


 I am traveling north to celebrate a new baby and a 70th birthday. Time at the beach with my family...there's nothing better in the world. 


I'm getting my business, Selah Writing Retreats,  OFF the ground this summer and planning writing workshops and retreats...info coming soon.

I've been spending so much time looking back, I almost forgot to look ahead. What do the summer months hold for you?

    Your summer sounds perfect for you! In the rush of ending a school year it is hard to focus on the "what's next". I made my summer list today (on day 4 of break).

    Your summer sounds fulfilling and productive! Mine involves sending one child to film camp in NYC and another off to live in Japan; preparing for professional development I'll be presenting; attending iPadPalooza for three days, and two more days of PD. And reading...lots and lots of reading, for this librarian!

    I love the reflection par that comes at the end of the year. I do much more of that now and in September, than I do at the end of December and beginning of january. This is my New Year season. Have a great summer.

    It is strange at the end of the year. How to process everything. I love love that video and what the summer holds for you. All Write will be wonderful. You will grow, grow, grow.

    Love that reading life video. I'm showing it to my book club this afternoon. I'm hoping we can use PowToon to make a video about our year together. I'm sad that I won't be at All Write this summer. You will have so much fun! I'm hopeful that someday we can meet on one of my visits to the east coast (which will definitely be more frequent with grandson's imminent arrival this month).

Chasing My Dream

I'm doing it. I'm chasing my dream. I've always wanted to run writing retreats and workshops for people, but I've always been too scared to do anything about it...until now. I don't know what's changed...maybe I've changed. I'm not allowing the fear to stop me anymore. Someday...

Join us at Two Writing Teachers . Do you have dreams? Kids are good at dreaming. I find many adults struggle with it. Speaking for myself, I get so caught up in the everyday drudgery of life, that dreams get nudged aside until they disappear.  It's important to have dreams. I've been writing about my dreams in my notebook and so I thought I'd share my dreams here... 1. Writing a book.  While I'd love to get a book published, my dream is to write a book...to complete the act of writing it.  I've started on this dream and it's hard and challenging and exciting and amazing.  2. Whatever Happened To...

Sharing this post on Two Writing Teachers Slice of Life Do you ever wonder whatever happened to your students after the year you spend together? I imagine how my students are finding life...are they happy? Successful? Do they still read? Write? What is going on with them?   I taught fifth grade for eight years. Fifth grade was such a fun year to teach because the students were still young enough that school was something they loved and old enough that they could show some real signs of independence. Fifth grade is the oldest grade in our elementary schools, so the students enjoyed their final year before moving onto middle school and the challenges that came with that new adventure.  2007 was a tough year for me personally. My dad collapsed in September of that year and then died in March of that same school year. He lived thousands of miles away, so my mind was definitely unfocused that year...but that year, Catie was in my class.  Catie was a quiet stude...
