Celebrating Transitions
Ending each week with celebrations and gratitude makes the moments in the week so much more precious. I'm so grateful to be part of this community! Thank you to Ruth Ayres and all of the bloggers! Please join us here.
In ten days, my school year begins again. Two weeks after that, the students arrive. Summer is coming to a close. I always have mixed feelings about this time...missing the relaxing pace of summer days, while yearning for routine and engagement! The combination of these emotions often causes anxiety...so my goal for August is to remain in the moment. Appreciate where I am. Celebrate the little moments and do NOT compare where I am with others.
I celebrate where I am.
I celebrate my journey.
I celebrate my mistakes.
I celebrate my successes.
(I'm struggling with celebration & gratitude today and reading the other posts bring me such joy & smiles and they remind me that good times are always around...look for them! Thank you!)
Right there with you! This has been a super busy summer for me- selling a rental house and teaching classes for my district. We're going back next week and I'm wondering where the summer went. And at the same time, I can't wait to see my colleagues and our kids. I love the Theodore Roosevelt quote too!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for our beginning, but never fail to have a hard time saying goodbye to summer. I guess we return about the same time, although I've been in & out quite a bit. I love your picture, quote, that little dog painting. I know you've been working on art. Did you do that? It's awesome! Best wishes for 'being'!
ReplyDeleteLinda, Thank you! I did make that image using Canva. The blank canvas is from an art class I took last year. Thanks for your good wishes! :)
DeleteYou are always the "giver of gratitude" so it Is my turn! Thank you ahead of time for helping me with this coming year. You are a great teacher and I know I will be able to lean on you for advice, ideas and inspiration. Now, go out and celebrate YOU! I hope that whatever is bringing you down today will disappear quickly!
ReplyDeleteLeigh Anne, THANK YOU! :) Your comment made me smile. I am happy to be of any help I can to you this year!! I'm so grateful for you!
DeleteYes! This summed up where I am exactly! I start the 18th, kids come the 20th. I have a "breathing problem" that comes with high anxiety - I feel like I need to get a breath in, but it just won't go all the way in. I'm having this issue so bad right now and I know it's because I'm trying to get everything in this summer that I want to, knowing there is no time to do it all! It's hard to relax when you have this in your subconscious! I hope you find a way to relax, breathe and enjoy these last few days. By October we'll be in the midst of it all looking forward to Thanksgiving Break!!
ReplyDeleteMichele, Yes, by October...so true!! Thanks for your words of encouragement. Breathe. Good reminder for us both!
DeleteYou are so genuine and lovely.
ReplyDeleteLove your goals. You are always completely you. What a joy to read your thoughts. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteMy summer is gone and I am actually getting a real twitter in my stomach about starting another year. So many expectations. I want to make a few changes and be solid about them. I am worried that I may expect too much. Here in this space, you are trying to be grateful and celebrate, but I hear in your voice a twinge of worry. This community of teachers, even though we are separated by miles, is supportive. I look forward to sharing the good times and the not so good times with you this year.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful beginning to your year! Enjoy all that is new. Looking forward to updates about how it is going in a few weeks :-)
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful attitude you have! The time you spend just "being" right now will pay you back ten-fold. Enjoy!!

Michelle, Your posts are always so full of honesty. Your 4 simple statements at the end are very powerful and so very important. I wish you lots of luck as you start the year and I look forward to following your journey.
