Celebrating the People in My Life

This week has been full of celebrations for me! I will celebrate the people in my life this week! Thank you Ruth Ayres for providing this space to celebrate!

I celebrate Jenny!
Monday: Literacy Journey began for the fourth year. The teachers in the group I'm co-facilitating are positive and motivated! My co-facilitator is one of my favorite people to work with...it's like we share a brain. Have you ever worked with someone and felt like that? It's such a gift! I'm so blessed to work with Jenny and I learn so much from her. Monday night we had our first Twitter chat. It was to practice and to talk about setting up our classrooms. It started out slow...just Jenny & I for awhile and then it really got going! We will have chats on the second Sunday of every month at 8pm EST. Everyone is welcome to join. #litjourney

I celebrate my students!
Tuesday: Sixth grade orientation. My first chance to see the faces I've been planning for...Students got a chance to walk through their schedules, meet teachers, see classrooms at orientation. I love the look on their faces when they look around the classroom. I asked each class what they noticed about the classroom. I got some of the best answers ever:
"We are going to read a lot!"
"Look at all the books!"
"It's comfortable."
"It's calm and peaceful." My favorite answer, "It's poetic."
(I'd post more pictures but I forgot to take them before I left on Friday.)

I celebrate Jessica!
Wednesday: Our class numbers are skyrocketing, so this year I'm teaching an extra block. That means on B days I have no planning. I will teach straight through the day. Since sixth graders have language arts everyday, I will share those students with Jessica O'Brien. We got a chance to sit down and talk about what this will look like and I am so excited. Jessica is someone with amazing ideas, an unbelievable attention to detail, and so incredibly creative. She loves teaching and I feel blessed to share this opportunity with her!

I celebrate Emily!
Thursday: A co-worker left last year and spent the year traveling the world doing mission work. She has an amazing blog of her journey: The World Race. Today I got to see her for lunch. She's glowing! I loved hearing the stories of her journey and seeing how it changed her. She is an inspiration to me!

I celebrate teaching!
Friday: Today was one of those productive days. I started at 8:30 and didn't stop til 4:45. My classroom is ready. The technology is ready. I met with everyone I needed to and crossed off so much from my to do list. And now...the students return on Tuesday! I celebrate that since that's why I teach!

Also want to celebrate Bella who is missing me after a long summer spent together!!

  4. I "share a brain" with someone at school too and it is so amazing to work with someone who thinks just like I do! You sound like you are in such a good place and ready for school to begin. (I'm guessing you are a Wisconsin teacher because we seem to be the last to begin school in the entire country...). While this is a time that we look forward to, it is hard on our fury friends, isn't it? Yesterday, mine got into a jar of peanut butter and managed to eat half the jar in her quest to stay entertained since I've gone back to work. Can't wait to see what else she tries...Have an amazing week next week!

  5. Such an uplifting post celebrating the talented people you work with. All my best for your start next week. Sounds like you are going to be busy. Bella is so sad. She'll be waiting for you to come home. Maybe, like Charlie, she will nap with you every afternoon. (The first two weeks exhaust me.)

  6. It is always so wonderful having great colleagues to share your journey with you. It can make such a difference to our daily professional lives! We spend so much time at work, and no matter how much you love what you do, it ends up more than ok when you have people to share it with!

  9. What a week! I can feel all of your energy just waiting to let loose. I understand how Bella feels. What happened? We were having so much fun. Give her some time she'll get with the swing of things. Have a wonderful first day.
