Fifty Days

Thank you to Stacey, Betsy, Dana, Tara, Beth, & Anna for this amazing platform to write and share writing! What a wonderful community you've created! I'm honored to be part of it. Join us at Two Writing Teachers

April is poetry month. This month I will be crafting and sharing original poems. Often, these poems will be messy and early drafts. Many of us are sharing our poems on twitter using the hashtag, #digipoetry. We hope you join us!

Looking at the planning calendar yesterday, I discovered that there are only FIFTY days left in my school year. Sigh...this year has slipped away so quickly! That's what inspired this poem made of three haikus. Enjoy!

Fifty days are left
to read, to write, to connect
only fifty days.

Fifty days to learn
except the days we don't learn
and must test instead.

Our time together
is short, so we must make the
most of it and FLY!

  1. That is a great poem! But I'm not happy about the end approaching. I have more like 90, not counting testing days. I am not ready!

  2. We are on the accelerating downhill slide, too. State library convention next week, testing after that, an author visit in May....whoosh! Haiku seems an appropriate form to describe this time of year!

  3. I am back to school today and know that the rest of the year will fly by. But then there's summer!

  4. It's crazy how fast the year is ending. I'm thinking about this too. The sense of urgency and a bit of regret fills me. Summer is the only cure!

  5. We only have 40 - this year has flown by! I have mixed feelings - I'm really excited about the end of the year because that means it's WEDDING time, but I'll be really sad to see my 6th graders go since I've been their teacher for 3 years.

  6. Before we know it, it will be summer. The school year goes by so quickly!

  8. You inspired me to count my days and I only have 38 left! I have an amazing class this year and I'm not ready so give them away. I am so thankful that we do our testing in the fall and I don't have to give up any of our precious time together to do them. I think you are right, our time is going to fly!

  9. We've got longer
    I'm not yet counting
    Yet they too will fly.
