Sharing this post on Two Writing Teachers Slice of Life Do you ever wonder whatever happened to your students after the year you spend together? I imagine how my students are finding life...are they happy? Successful? Do they still read? Write? What is going on with them? I taught fifth grade for eight years. Fifth grade was such a fun year to teach because the students were still young enough that school was something they loved and old enough that they could show some real signs of independence. Fifth grade is the oldest grade in our elementary schools, so the students enjoyed their final year before moving onto middle school and the challenges that came with that new adventure. 2007 was a tough year for me personally. My dad collapsed in September of that year and then died in March of that same school year. He lived thousands of miles away, so my mind was definitely unfocused that year...but that year, Catie was in my class. Catie was a quiet stude...
These are fantastic. I'm the WORST at writing in my notebook. I wish I had 56 notebooks as you do. How brilliant it must be to read who you were over the years. Great post. Wishing you felt better. xo
ReplyDeleteYou have 56 notebooks!?!
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing. Someday you'll have your own "cloud"
Talk about walking the walk! You're amazing, Michelle.
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling a bit stronger every day.
Loved the peek inside your notebooks! Ellen is my humor hero too! Keep resting and stay on the road to recovery.
ReplyDeleteThis was so fun! I have been "off notebooks" for so long, only got back on the bandwagon a few years ago and I am only consistent in March! You are a rock star! Hope today is a bit better for you!
ReplyDeleteThis is your gift, Michelle. Writing practice in notebooks. Loved the peek in and especially your dream of Bella. Thanks for sharing. Get well soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a glimpse inside and the number count! Very inspiring. I too like to carry a notebook. If I counted I'd be in the double digits but only around the 20s I suspect. You've inspired me to gather all in one place and count!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this journey through your notebooks! You are a notebook jedi. In my next life, I'm coming back with good penmanship and one-tenth of your notebooking skills. Amazine.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing feat! Notebook writing is on my summer list. I think there is a need to slow down and focus when notebook writing that I need to return to. I hope you are taking good care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteAnd among all these wonderful pages, you included those first times with Bella. Wonderful to see all this, from Spain to that 'accusing notebook". Fun, & glad you found a way to post amidst your illness. Hope you're better soon, Michelle.
ReplyDeleteYour notebooks are beautiful. You have so many treasures there. My notebooks are sometimes so messy that even I can't figure out what i wrote. Your notebook pages are art.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you are still sick but boy am I happy you shared photos of your notebook pages. Fantastic inspiration for those of us (me) who still struggle with the practice of notebook keeping...
ReplyDeleteThe photos of your notebooks are amazing. What a legacy.
ReplyDeleteI love peeking in your notebooks. I read them all but I love the last one the best! The metaphors you use for writing are amazing...iced tea, short-cuts, and fireworks! Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI almost forgot....I hope you are feeling better! Sending you sunshine...even though it has been raining cats and dogs here!
DeleteWhat a neat idea to go back and look at your notebooks. It was so neat to go through them with you and read about different times in your life! I have a ton of old notebooks full of quotes and random stories packed away. Makes me want to open them up! Hope you get better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, Michelle, what a treat you gave us today! I love the spirit that flows from your pen to your entries. I agree with Julieanne - You ARE a notebook jedi. Thanks for sharing some pages and inspiring all of us. Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteFun to see this glimpse into your writing life. I have kind of stopped keeping notebooks the last couple of years and mostly just do it online. You make me want to go back to my notebooks.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on continuing your practice of writing in your fancy notebooks, Michelle. You have made them your own. When I think of notebooks, yours pop up into my head. I especially love your quotes like Twitter is a cocktail party, Align, Prepare, Dare-God calls us to do strange, unpredictable things in unpredictable ways). Of course, there is the entry about your adorable Bella.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the pages of your notebooks. I am grateful for googly eyes, too!
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm impressed on so many levels...first your commitment to writing in notebooks and you've kept them. And then being allowed to see a glimpse into them...beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am over coming technical difficulties at home and late commenting, but I didn't want the week to end without me saying how I love what you shared from your notebooks. What a wonderful picture over time of you as a journaler, thinker and writer. Your voice is so upbeat and positive--even in that list that annoys you! : ) Once at a women's Bible study meeting our ice breaker had us share the wierdest thing we had in our purses and tell the story of it. My girl friend had a tin of googly eyes (left over from her kindergartener's project); I had a citrus zester (present for a student who baked) -- your line brought that right back to me with a smile.
