Inspired by Truth
Thank you to Stacey, Betsy, Dana, Tara, Beth, Anna, Kathleen & Deb for this amazing platform to write and share writing! What a wonderful community you've created! I'm honored to be part of it. Join us at Two Writing Teachers.
Yesterday I heard the most wonderful words from Glennon Doyle Melton. She had her first #LoveWarriorLive cast yesterday. You can find it here. The topic is aging. She just turned forty. She's made a commitment to tell the truth. What's better than that? Here are some words of truth that touched me from her first live cast...
"I don't have to earn my existence anymore. I don't have to earn love anymore. I'm here. I'm not trying out for life anymore, I'm just going to live it...Getting older is how you become yourself. I made my intentions for the year...Being your sister is one of the honors and joys of my life. How much of my life has been spent trying not to be 'too much'." Glennon Doyle Melton
Inspired by that, here are some truths I believe...
* Getting older means knowing my true self.
* My hair will never look better than on a day of my appointment to get it cut.
* My hair will never look better than on a day of my appointment to get it cut.
* Writing has healing powers.
* It's impossible to be sad while singing along with the songs from the "Sound of Music".
* Kindness and gratitude make for a good life.
* I get energy from my time alone.
* Stickers make everyone smile.
* Crying alone is never as good as crying with a friend.
* Jumping in puddles on a rainy day is good for the soul.
* I still have much to learn.
* I still have much to learn.
What are some of your truths?
I love your truths and they are oh so freeing - I'm with both of you. Love being over 40! My truth is that my 'silver' hair coming in is perfect on me, and serving and loving others is a way to give back to me. Thank you for making me think this morning! Great slice - made me smile!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful truths. I especially love that you can't be sad while singing along to songs from The Sound of Music. That is true!
ReplyDeleteAnd getting energy from being alone is one I can relate to.
Thanks for sharing the link the the live cast.
I love these. Big and small truths. Stickers, kindness, puddles and learning. A great mixture for a good life.
ReplyDeleteYour last line is a big truth. We'll be forever learning.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sticker addict too! (Shocking, right?) One of the reasons "choose" is my OLW this year is because I need to honor what I want and not what someone else wants or expects from me. That is one of my truths.

I think that last line is an important truth for me, too, Michelle. I never stop learning about "things", but also about myself. I'm glad you shared this today, nice to think about.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful Michelle! Truths is a wonderful topic. Hmm. . .
ReplyDeleteThank you for the late-day inspiration. I needed it. I love the imagery in some of your statements. My truth: I have fought bitterness away and found gratitude.
ReplyDeleteI do love these truths-especially the last line. Beautiful post.
ReplyDeleteOh, great question and wonderful post! This next year, as I just celebrated a birthday, I have decided some truths of my own. I have decided to live more in the moment. I feel like I've spent so much time in survival mode, and I want to move from that.
ReplyDeleteI need to remember to turn on the music. The Sound of Music can makes me sing and dance.
ReplyDeleteWonderful truths here, Michelle. One that I keep coming back to is trust in the beauty of God's creation; hair, a rainy day, a stranger's smile, all of it.
