Wanderlust Staycation
I'm planning my "Wanderlust Staycation".
This is my last week of school. There's so much going on, I don't know where to begin...so naturally, I'll begin with summer plans. I was disappointed because I didn't have a week long beach trip planned. Things weren't lining up for me and I was getting sad answering the question, "What are you doing this summer?"
I decided I'm creating my own staycation. I'm calling it the "Wanderlust Staycation" and currently I'm asking for suggestions from local friends for day trips or fun activities around Loudoun County, Virginia which is outside of Washington DC. I've lived here for seventeen years and there's so much to do and see. Right now, I'm gathering suggestions and soon I'll be making a map of my summer.
I know that I want to discover new (to me) places. I want to explore and see new things. I love going by myself or with a friend. Places, where I can write, are a plus since I want to write a lot this summer. Finally, I'd like to push myself to try new things and have new experiences.
Suggestions have already begun pouring in and I'm excited...
So far, I'm going to see Rent in DC. I will definitely be trying goat yoga and getting myself to the Newseum.

Back when I was in college, I remember a woman I worked with spent her day off each week exploring Boston. She'd find something new and go. That spirit has always stayed with me and I'm hoping it makes me brave enough to try lots of new things.
Suggestions are welcome! Where should I go? What should I do? Who's coming with me?

I love the suggestions! May I suggest a trip to an art or craft store? Peruse the supplies, see what intrigues you, and create something just for fun!
ReplyDeleteWhen I loved in Berlin I had a bus/subway pass and would challenge myself to go new places as often as possible in the summer and just explore- I loved it. I think you will enjoy your summer writing in new places!
ReplyDeleteGoat yoga??? Who knew! I love your wanderlust spirit, Michelle. I admire it a lot. Yes, be brave and go! And if you can't be brave, just do it scared. Adventure awaits you, friend! (Just take lots of pictures!!)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect vacation. We often explore our area and learn so much around where we live. Of course I would suggest a quiet park with an amazing book.
ReplyDeleteGoat yoga, who knew. There is a park near me that hosts yoga everyday at 11 am and while it lacks the goats, being outside on the grass is a lovely thing. I love how you are finding what is hidden in your own area. So much to discover if we just look closely. I'm looking forward to reading about all of your discoveries!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea. Don't forget to take your notebook with you and capture your experiences in writing.
ReplyDeleteI knew about bunny yoga but not goat yoga! Looks like a blast! I'll suggest you join me in D. C. for the Scholastic Reading Summit! 😊
ReplyDeleteYou live outside of one of the greatest cities in the world. You have a summer's worth of things right there!
ReplyDeleteCOME VISIT!
Sounds absolutely wonderful!
