I rediscovered the bio poem over at Wondering and Wandering yesterday and decided to share my own version today. Here goes...
Michelle
Auntie, teacher, writer, friend
Grateful, sassy, and positive
Wishes to change the world with love and laughter.
Dreams of living on the shores of the Outer Banks.
Wants to create a strong community of passionate middle school writers.
Who wonders what surprises the future holds.
Who is afraid of bats and birds and things that fly.
Who believes that writing untangles life, and silence is where we can truly hear, and laughter is good for the soul.
Who loves being an auntie & Godmother to Jack, Jillian, and Josie.
Who plans to write a book, fall in love, and show gratitude every single day

Writing untangles the life
ReplyDeletewhich gets tangled
by living, our fingers
knotted up around worry
until an idea -- a sparkle of
inspiration whose intentions
we trust ourselves in --
frees the mind to write,
and finds a path into the
silence of contemplation.
-- Line-lifting for some poetry comments. Pardon my intrusions.

So fun to have Kevin back in the comments. I love his poetic hackings.
DeleteI am amazed how much I can learn about you through this poetry format! And the picture mirrors the joyful love that you write about!
ReplyDeleteI really do like bio poems and should have had my students write them before our upcoming student led conferences (but will, as usual have them write them before our poetry share). I love the Outer Banks too, but need a city.
ReplyDeleteWow! You have told us a LOT in a few short lines. Auntie, teacher, ocean lover. My favorite line of all, "Silence is where we can truly hear." Some big truth there, I think.
ReplyDeleteScared of things that fly? All things that fly? I agree with Carol about your silence bit being profound among all your words. And this could be a mission statement, "Who believes that writing untangles life, and silence is where we can truly hear, and laughter is good for the soul."
ReplyDelete"Who believes that writing untangles life, and silence is where we can truly hear"
ReplyDeleteLove this line! I also love writer inspires writer! I usually check in with Wondering and Wandering but didn't yesterday - thanks to you, I will today! Thanks for sharing!! Ps I love the saying your last name - it's one of those words that rolls off the tongue! As I read that, it sounds weird, but I'm sticking with it because writers like words!
Love this slice bio-poem. I've added it to my padlet of ideas. Your such a joy to know!
ReplyDeleteLaughter is good for the soul - your bright smile shines to illustrate this.
ReplyDeleteYou are afraid of bats, and birds, and things that fly? Let's get together and work on this one! LOL
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read any book you write!!
My favorite line is your belief line! I love all three of them. My students wrote bio poems today about a character from a book. It must be the day for those.
ReplyDeleteOh, oh! ...the Outer Banks! I love the Outer Banks. When I was growing up we vacationed there... camping at Hatteras in the days of tent camping. I have such wonderful vivid memories of those weeks. We definitely have that love in common!
ReplyDeleteI love the poem as an introduction! Great shirt, too! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful expression of you, Michelle, and we have yet to meet face to face (NCTE18 awaits!) but now having heard you in Voxer, and now reading your bio poem, I feel even more like I know you. The line, "writing untangles life, and silence is where we can truly hear" definitely stopped me in my tracks. Powerful truth. Thank you for sharing!
